This co-operative type venture was created in 1978 to ensure that the shrimp license which was issued to Southern Labrador by the federal government would reap maximum benefits for both the fishers and fish plant workers of the region. Since then the Labrador Fishermen's Union Shrimp Co. has become the economic flagship for both the town of L'Anse-au-Loup and all of coastal Labrador.
